Will the successor to Angela Merkel be a male homosexual?
Jens Spahn is a conservative, a homosexual and a member of the governing Christian Democratic Union – CDU party who’s leader is the notorious Angela Merkel.
Despite the young politician being a symbol for contradiction he presents himself as an answer to CDU’s biggest dilemma. The dilemma is of course not the ruinous migrant crisis, but who can succeed Angela Merkel as the head of the party.
Despite Spahn admitting to his homosexuality relatively early on he enjoys strong support among the CDU party conservative brass and has been very active in the financial and health care committees of the party.
As someone without major smudges to his reputation or any previous scandals he is considered to have great potential in assuming party leadership and giving the party new vigour. New vigour after many years of the embattled and abused electorate looking at the same faces and more importantly after Angela Merkel’s inevitable bow out. He would most assuredly get the support of the conservative wing of the party because of his stance concerning the migrant crisis.
Merkel accused of leftist politics
CDU and its Bavarian sister party CSU have not had a worse relationship in over 40 years. Their support among voters is rapidly declining and being soaked up by other more genuine rightist parties. Angela Merkel has taken the brunt of the criticism of her conservative colleagues who accuse her of a dangerous and irresponsible immigration policy, as well as social and energy policies that have all alienated voters and shoved the party to the left.
Will Merkel even stand for re-election in the next election cycle?
German elections will be held next year and it is yet unclear if “Mama Merkel”, as she is called by the illegal migrants and party loyalists, will run for re-election to her fourth term. Jens Spahn who currently serves as the deputy-finance minister certainly isn’t shy about declaring his ambition for becoming the Prime-minister. He joined the party as a 15 year old and rose in the ranks quickly.
Critical towards the current immigration policy and a proponent of German values?
Spahn’s policy can be summarized as a combination of progressivism because of his sexual orientation and conservatism when it comes to the immigration policy and preserving German values. He believes Germany has accepted too many migrants who will never integrate.
Because of this he also enjoys great support among the younger wing of the party and clearly presents formidable competition to Angela Merkel who’s popularity among German people and her own party members has been in rapid decline.
