Illegal migrants set fire to a migrant camp in Lampedusa, Italy
A group of illegal middle-eastern migrants set fire to a migrant camp on the Italian island of Lampedusa on Tuesday. Reports confirm no one was injured in the blaze that was put under control by Italian firefighters.
The mayor of Lampedusa Guisi Nicolini reported that illegal migrants set fire to a building and that the police had already identified four men alleged to have started the arson. The costs of the damage are not yet known reports Index.
The migrant centre (in reality EU’s human smuggling outpost) on Lampedusa is the first stop for the illegal migrant flow from Africa to Europe and has been set ablaze two previous times in 2009 and 2011.
In the last two years more than 320.000 illegals from Northern Africa arrived on the Italian shores and 31.000 this year alone according to official figures. Unofficially no one knows how many. It could be in the millions. Because of that Italian migrant centres were at breaking point even before the last year’s main migrant invasion wave.
